Take 15 kids with a lot of creativity and eagerness to learn about business, combine it with some hard work and you'll get a successful Backyard Entrepreneur (BE) in Business camp! Hosted by Community Futures (CF) Sunrise on July 23rd, this summer camp endeavors to boost business skills and ignite the entrepreneurial spirit in young people.

"The kids learned important business concepts - from budgeting, pricing and marketing to dealing with customers. These young people really did get a small taste of what it's like to own a business," comments Verna O'Neill of CF Sunrise.

During the one-day camp, the eight to 12 years olds were 'open for business' during the supper hour with kiosks set up in the Community Room of
the Weyburn Credit Union. Customers shopped at a four different pop-up stands. 'You Gotta Eat Here' served tacos, 'Fantastic Desserts' offered up tarts
and rice krispie treats, 'Ponytail Chicks' had iced tea and home-made crafts for sale, and carnival games were enjoyed at '4 Guys, 3 Games'.

With assistance from the camp leaders, the kids were able to serve the 70 guests that visited the youth-run businesses. Customers raved about the enthusiasm and service provided by the young business owners.
