Krystal’s journey into entrepreneurship is deeply tied to her roots. After spending 18 years in university and nearing completion of her PhD in Criminology, she realized her path lay outside academia and she returned to a family legacy that began in the 1970s with her grandmother’s ceramic studio, Olive’s Ceramics. When the opportunity arose to revive and grow that tradition, she embraced it fully - bringing new life to thousands of ceramic molds while expanding the studio’s offerings for a new generation.
Like many small business owners, Krystal understands both the rewards and the realities of entrepreneurship. Building something meaningful from the ground up - and being able to look back on that journey - is one of the most fulfilling aspects. At the same time, the day-to-day demands can be intense. Long hours and constant responsibility are part of the reality, but for Krystal, the challenges are inseparable from the rewards.
Her perspective on rural entrepreneurship is refreshingly honest: “risky but worth it.” It’s a sentiment that reflects both courage and commitment - qualities that shine through in everything she’s built.
