The village of Bracken, SK was one of the winners in the 2014 Community Beautification Program. Their project was to take an abandoned area and turn it into park for the people of the community to use. It was used for a soccer field originally, but some of the residents felt it could be more.
The landscaping of the area was done first, then playground equipment was set up and pea gravel was spread out to complete the first structure. The next steps were getting a second area ready for a swing set. Again, landscaping and setting up of the equipment was done. Metal benches were cemented in as well as garbage bins. A tether ball was placed as well in the area.
Most of the work was done by volunteers, and donated equipment. Lunch was brought in by the local 4-H group. The end result is amazing! Community Futures Southwest gave $2000.00 towards the project.
The park will be used by all locals and surrounding area communities. Work is still being done, such as adding trees and flowers in the future. The playground is beautiful and the village of Bracken should be very proud of the work they did!!
A video of the project, done by Southwest TV News will be added to this post once it is finished.
